Too little, too late

At some point in the middle of the day yesterday, I became aware that Blitzen Trapper was playing in Boulder that very night ($15 tickets still available!). I've never seen them live, but would guess it would be a great show, given the musical ADD of their albums. However, it was a weeknight, I already had some plans for the evening, and I don't have many indie-music loving friends that would be up for a last minute show an hour's drive away. If only the Denver/Boulder music scene would move just a few miles north, this kind of thing could be avoided. In any case, I decided I needed a better system for learning about bands that I like, that are playing nearby (perhaps with a few weeks notice). I went to the only concert aggregator I know of: Pollstar. I was able to create an account, specifying my locale and how far I'm willing to travel, and add bands to my profile. I haven't figured out yet if it will email me when new shows are added, but at the very least I can login and look at everything at once. Does anyone else have a system for keeping up with shows happening in their area? If so, let's hear it.

Blitzen Trapper does have a new album out, named after and featuring "Black River Killer" from their last album. I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but I'll report back when I have.

I don't have any advice on the concert awareness system, but good call on the Black River Killer video.

iLike on Facebook is good if you're a frequent Facebook user. I also am on several local venue list serves. They send me a calendar of upcoming shows. Usually go to the venue's home page and you'll see a link to sign up for their "updates". If you like Jam bands, JamBase is good (http://www.jambase.com/). And, if you don't mind consulting with the enemy, TicketMaster sends monthly updates and Live Nation (http://www.livenation.com/).

I forgot about Jambase - that's a great source for tour dates. Regardless of the name, they include all popular music on their tour dates, even "bands" like Rascal Flatts.

I'm going for an all-in-one system since I can't keep up with tons of emails. I'll report back after I've tested this system for a while.

BTW, I found a live session of BT on Laundromatinee: http://www.laundromatinee.com/sessions/video_session__blitzen_trapper Almost like the real thing...ok, not really.
