When we first started this blog, I invited a lot of people to join. Several folks told me that they would have nothing to contribute because they don't follow music that much. Okay, makes sense. So, a year ago, I was riding around Georgia somewhere with Greg, while he was blasting the song "Tom Sawyer". When I asked "Who is this?", he almost immediately threw me out of the vehicle. I was then lectured for an hour or so on the awesomeness of this band and the greatness of Neil Peart. "You know who Neil Peart is don't you"? "Nope" I responded. Total calamity ensued and throughout the rest of the day, Greg continued to bow and shake his head, repeating "I can't believe you don't know Rush". I see Greg about three or four times a year now and whenever we are with new company, he tells them this story. This is usually followed with all the men in the room playing air guitar, air drums, or hitting some nearby object to imitate a Neil Peart drum solo. The women tend to be like me, having no idea who the band is, or just being indifferent. This scene from I Love You, Man is extremely accurate from my experience.
So, I said in my last post that this one would ROCK. To keep that promise and to make Greg happy, here is Rush and a Neil Peart drum solo.....enjoy

Growing up surrounded by what I call "motorcycle rock," (a subset of classic and 80s rock) I am quite familiar with Rush. As a woman, I would actually go a little further than indifference and say dislike - when I hear Rush on the radio, I'll say something like "Ugh, I hate Rush" and immediately change the station. Now Heart, on the other hand, is whole different story...I compare to Heart, because I thought Rush was fronted by a woman until a few years ago.
The music of Rush does seem to have a testerone-laced feel to it. That makes the feminine vocals seem all the weirder. I cannot explain it - I just know it's awesome.
I had forgotten about your profile picture....hysterical. the comment about Rush being fronted by a woman, also hysterical.
