Brother Wind-Tim O'Brien with Darrell Scott

Because I am a Tim O'Brien aficionado and this is a great song, here is one for your viewing pleasure...

Tim O'Brien-Telluride

Here is a little ditty written by the Dixie Chicks called "More Love." I saw Tim perform this in Crested Butte one year and before singing, he shared his disdain for the ongoing war in Iraq; perhaps with new leadership, we will be able to make songs like these our mantra.

Eric Martinez

A note from one of Alex's good friends below. His music can also be found on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/ericmartinezmusic and his personal webpage: http://www.ericmartinezmusic.com Bloodkin (so I'm assuming Eric as well) will be playing some shows with Drive by Truckers in January (see http://www.drivebytruckers.com/tourdates.html). Alex may have more to add......

Howdy folks,
Last summer I had the pleasure of doing an in studio session at the MoBoogie loft here in Denver, CO. They are a great crew of people working over there with a great recourse for musicians and music lovers. So bookmark their site and check back often for more kick-ass videos. So The Meeting and The Hammer are my songs, Haunting Montezuma I wrote with Daniel Hutchens from Bloodkin, and Lifer is one of my favorite Bloodkin songs. I hope you enjoy.

Para las personas del sur

Hello again. For anyone from the south or anyone who likes damn good music, here is a song entitled "Southern Accent" from Tom Petty, a Gainseville, FL native, for you to enjoy. Happy listening:)

Libby commenting below, by the way.
I'm on board with Ross. Ghostland Observatory has become my latest obsession. Check out their album, delete.delete.i.eat.meat. Totally rossome! TV on the Radio's Return to Cookie Mountain, Modest Mouse's We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank and Good News for People Who Love Bad News have all enjoyed lots of playtime on my ipod this past year.

Alycia's Brother

Greetings!
My name is Brent but most of you know me as Alycia's brother. I too am punked about this blog as it is my first visit to the blogosphere. Lately, I've been digging into some Michael Franti and Spearhead. Speaks his mind and the kids and I love the beat. Unfortunately for them, I am teaching them to dance (think "African Anteater ritual"). Also, can't get "A punk" by VAMPIRE WEEKEND out of my head. The rest of their album is solid also. Later.

A couple of wildly different things

Hi Everyone,

I figured I might as well get something posted on here. First is a video of Gram Rabbit compiled from shows at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown, CA and Spaceland in LA. Gram Rabbit is a band out of Joshua Tree who does psychedelic/dance music and throws in odd bit such as video projection and dancing "rabbits". They have put out three albums. The first one "Music To Start a Cult By" is my favorite although it is less dancy and more county/psychedelic. Ther latest is "Radio Angel and The Robot Beat" and the video is of American Hookers off of that album. I'm also going to throw in "Bloody Bunnies" from their second album "Cultivation".

Also, I'm going to throw in Jenny Lewis because I absolutely love her. She was the lead singer for the now defunct Rilo Kiley. She put out an album called "Rabbit Fur Coat" with The Watson Twins in 2006 that was all over a bunch of top ten lists and this year she put out "Acid Tongue".
First is a live version of Acid Tongue from October and then the official video for "Rise Up With Fists!" which I just think is funny.

That's it for today. Thanks for setting up this site. It shouuld be a great place to learn about new music and even just hear some old stuff.

Freedom in Music

Hooray for Barack Obama!!! I'm sending this to friends abroad and friends here in the U.S.

I hope to give you my good will. The atmosphere in this country and where I live is astounding due to the election of Barack Obama. I'm really curious to hear your stories from where you live. What does the election of Barack Obama mean to you and to the people where you live?

I spent 3 years of my life volunteering in community radio and producing public affairs in part to fight the Bush administration. It seemed this shift would never ever happen. I can't put into words what this victory means to me. It is truly an inspiration, a beacon of hope and long time coming. This election has revitalized my ideals, aspirations and faith in this country and in democracy. I can only hope that this victory is a signal to the world that we have realized our mistakes as a country and hope to heal the wounds through a new dialog.
Here is Barack's acceptance speech:

To celebrate, I linked some of my favorite music on you tube so check it out! Feel free to send back music if you like. Also, feel free to reply to all since everyone on this email list loves music. There are a number of countries represented on this list and it might be interesting to hear each others viewpoints and musical interests. Also, feel free to forward this on....

Freedom in music!
Big Hugs....
David Canter

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Welcome!

As many of you already know, Dave (Canter) sent an email out following the election of Barack Obama (I'll have Dave post the original email). Many people responded to the email, sending You Tube links to some of their favorite videos and inspiring words on what the election meant to them. So, we thought, why not keep this going? That is what this blog is about....sharing music, inspiring words, whatever your heart desires. We invite you to post your original responses to Dave's email and continue to post new music, videos, lyrics, shows you've seen that you would like to share with everyone....whatever. Invite your friends!

So, to begin and realizing that I'm not what many people would consider a "wordsmith", I decided to steal something from the Forrest Gump soundtrack cover. Yep, you heard me right, the Forrest Gump soundtrack cover. A little cheesy, perhaps, but I thought it was highly relevant.

Time. Moments in time. Vivid recollections of the moments that impacted our lives. Where we were when John Kennedy was shot. When the first man walked on the moon. The never-ending shadow of the war in Vietnam. And with all the images and the feelings, there is always the music. The song we played when we fell in love for the first time. When we fell out of love. And when we fell in love again. A simple journey through complicated times. The coming-of-age of a generation and a country. And at the heart of the story is the music. Music that lives with us, always there to remind us of the people, the places, and the events of our times. Music is as vital as any character-it is a character-complex and exhilarating, humorous and heartbreaking, the essence of what we once were and will always be. Music helps define us.
