Skate or die
I recently heard a song on XM from Coconut Records called "Microphone" which I think is really good. I was looking for the video on youtube so I could do fancy posts like Alycia, Nick and Kim. I was unable to find a video for "Microphone" but ran across another song from them called "West Coast" which makes me want to bust out the Rob Roskopp (?sp) board and hop on the halfpipe...or don a white jumpsuit with Aloha painted on the back and skate through traffic in Germany. Enjoy.

A Medley of Music Info
- Buying my tickets this evening for a girls night out to see Indigo Girls next month at the Charlottesville Pavilion. I didn't realize they had a new cd out until I clicked on the Pavilion's website. Haven't listened to any songs all the way through yet but I like what I heard of "Ghost of the Gang" - acoustic version. (Quick side trip down memory lane, it was Alycia that first introduced me to Indigo Girls. Actually it was Alycia that first introduced me to a lot of good music... I have loving but puritanical parents who generally restricted my music selection to country, gospel or oldies. thank god we moved to Blackshear, GA my junior year of high school so that my ears could be enlightened by Alycia's extensive cd collection.)
- Another blog I like to read about music... http://www.fuelfriendsblog.com/
- Check out this website, 8tracks. I haven't had time to explore it much but looks like it could be an interesting resource. Their tagline is "Share your mix. Discover new music." They explain their M.O. as "a simple, legal way for people to share and discover music through an online mix."
- Last thing, Alycia already mentioned Bela Fleck -the new album & the tour - in an earlier post but I'd like to give a shout out to Vusi Mahlasela who will be touring with Bela Fleck. A friend of mine, Ann Kingston, is his manager. Vusi played at UVA back in February. Unfortunately I was sick the night of the show, but I did get to hear him play a little the next night at a local restaurant where he had a dinner/meet & greet. My friends who made it to the concert had nothing but great things to say about the show. It was in a UVA concert hall with cramped seating that can create a pretty sedate atmosphere but Vusi had everyone up and dancing. Here's a video of Vusi playing at Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday Celebration in London.

K'Naan: Troubadour
This album was released last month, and I keep hearing good things. Click title to access his web page. You'll find four full length songs there and here's a video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovk5EfFj7Ws. Sounds like music that typically gets a lot of radio play, so my apologies if this has been playing on your local radio station every half hour. Here's something not as well-known perhaps in the same genre.

Several Things....
1) You can download the Phish Hampton shows for free from livephish.com for a limited time. Thanks Maelly!
2) Bela Fleck released his latest CD yesterday, "Throw Down Your Heart". The documentary is being shown at several locations, including Denver and Savannah. Check it out at www.throwdownyourheart.com.
3) Brendon informed me that Dan Deacon will be releasing a new CD later this month. You may remember the Madison show B mentioned in an earlier post. You can check his music out at http://www.myspace.com/dandeacon. iTunes defines it as "Electronic, Future Shock". I'm not really sure what that means, so here's a sample:
4)Finally, Peter Bjorn and John have a new CD coming out at the end of the month. I thoroughly enjoyed their first album, Writer's Block. And, although I've already posted it on Facebook, I'm going to post their new video again here because it is badass. Let me know if anyone wants to pull out their black leather and hit up the streets of Chicago with me this weekend....

West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home, country roads.
Again with the misleading post title...
I'm headed out of town today - to West Virginia - so I wanted to go ahead and get this post done --- because when I get back on Thursday, I am headed to see my friend John Pringle play what will probably be his last show in Charlottesville for awhile. John is a talented songwriter. Has a voice reminiscent of Eddie Vedder. And he puts on a great show. Next week he'll be playing in Austin during SXSW at an event hosted by Rachel Ray. (http://www.rachaelray.com/travel/feedback/index.php)
Here's a link to John's website. http://www.johnpringlemusic.com/
Also playing at the R.R. event is a group called The Airborne Toxic Event. A friend recently made a cd for me that included their song "Sometime Around Midnight." It caught my attention. I love it. Browsing on youtube, I found they recently played on David Letterman...

New Kid Alert
Sorry, hope the title didn't cause any panic that I might be posting 90's boy band music. Just warning you that I'm a new poster. (I've been reading for awhile.) Anyway, living in a small town, having a 2 mile commute which means very little radio time, and not watching television, I may be a little out of touch and posting old news. But this is a girl I just heard about - she's playing in Charlottesville tonight. I like her music... but it's even more impressive when you watch her play. So, without further adieu, here to entertain you is... [drumroll]... Theresa Andersson...

Fort Collins Nostalgia
Here are some tunes from Wildwood Holler! (www.myspace.com/wildwoodholler), a local favorite of mine. The first song is from their album, "Exclamation", and the second from their album "Round Trip" played live at Holler!ween. It appears that some of us have missed several stages in the evolution of Michael's facial hair.
Also check out Michael and Josh's side projects [The Handpicked Holler!, The Honey Gitters (www.myspace.com/honeygitters), Bourbon Toothpaste (www.myspace.com/bourbontoothpaste)] and Jon Thomas's new band at www.myspace.com/stormmountainband. They just recorded a live show for KRFC's "Live at Lunch" and posted three new songs. For those of you actually in Fort Collins, the Storm Mountain Band is opening up for the Handpicked Holler! on April 18 at the Aggie. Check 'em out.
