When you introduce someone to a band that you love and they've never heard do you start with what you think is the band's best work, knowing that if they like it everything else will not be as awesome. Or do you start in the middle of the pack and give them room to explore?
While you're thinking check this out from The Mynabirds
I think a lot of people don't think of one song because we are so used to giving people a shit ton of digital music, but that is intimidating. When a friend comes over and gives me 20 albums in 0.567 seconds that is a lot of listening to do and I'm listening to music almost all the time. So I try to give them something that is good and digestible and then leaves them wanting more. You don't have to pick the one song that does it, that sets someone on fire, just one song that makes them curious. I think the problem for people like us is that we get too caught up in evangelizing bands and can feel failure if our evangelicalism fails. We need to take a step back and remember just how annoying evangelicals are.

I start with a good song, but not my favorite song.

wow. i never thought about just one song. If it's a great band it would be so hard to pick that one song that would do it for someone else.
