Saw this first video on another blog today. I used to listen to a lot of Etta James, Ella Fiztgerald, and the like. Haven't in awhile but it was good to be reunited today. I think I have some downloading to do when I get home this evening. Warning: The first two songs are really sad. Beautiful but sad. I've had a great week and I'm heading out of town this evening with my boyfriend. But ol' Nina can make you forget all of that for a moment and bring back memories of being heartbroken. So if you're having a down day, I suggest you pour yourself a glass of red wine and wrap up in a thick fuzzy blanket before you press the play button.
Presenting Miss Nina Simone...
(discovered via )
Which led me to watch some of her other videos and where I found what is possibly the saddest broken heart song I've ever heard...
Lost in day to day,
Turned another way
With a laugh, a kind hello
And some small talk with friends I know
I forget that I'm not over you for a while.
A wave, an easy grin,
A smile to put them in,
Got other lives to listen to
And some music that I have to do
I forget that I'm not over you for a while.
Days go by with no empty feeling,
Until I touch my hair and touch my skin
And remember you're gone.
People say to me, "hey Nina do you need some company?
When you have some time to spend,
Drop around-you need your friends."
They forget that I'm not over you for a while,
They forget that I'm not over you for a while.
Ok, let's cheer it up a bit.
